After using the Balolo Setup Cockpit for a few months—a premium desk shelf priced at around $700—I’m here to share whether I think it’s worth the investment.
Why I Needed a Desk Shelf
If you’re a creative like me, you probably know how quickly things can get messy. Notebooks, iPads, phones, and random papers tend to pile up. It’s available in other finishes like black and oak, but the walnut fit my setup best. The setup process was straightforward: attach the legs with the provided tools, and you’re good to go. The stability of the shelf is excellent, even supporting larger monitors with ease.
Modular Accessories: Customizing Your Setup
Where the Balolo Setup Cockpit really shines is in its modular accessories. These allow you to customize your setup for maximum ergonomics and efficiency. I spent some time planning out where I wanted everything to go, starting with the laptop holder. I like to keep my laptop closed to avoid distractions, and this accessory helps me keep it plugged into my setup while staying out of sight.
Next, I added the iPad holder. I like to use my iPad for note-taking and keeping track of my to-do list, so I placed it front and center. This way, I can quickly jot things down or cross tasks off throughout the day. The only downside is that it sits a bit high, sometimes covering the bottom of my monitor. One way to solve this is by moving the holder to the side, but I prefer keeping it in the middle for now.

I use them to organize notebooks, pens, and other small items like keycaps when I’m switching out mechanical keyboard keys. The trays don’t take up the whole shelf, leaving room for cables, which I use to charge my iPad.
While the organization is great, I think Balolo could improve the cable management options. They do offer small hooks, but I’d love to see more creative solutions like magnetic cable clips.
