Personally, I always enjoy watching EDC (Everyday Carry) and backpack setup videos. They inspire me to change things up and add new elements to my setup. Over the years, I've realized that I prefer a more minimalist approach. I don't like bulky pockets or heavy backpacks when I'm walking around. Instead, I adopt the philosophy of having everything I need but nothing more.

However, some days require carrying more stuff, so I’ve split this blog post into three main categories: pocket setup, everyday backpack, and Sunday backpack. I'll show you items that vary depending on my needs.

Pocket Setup

Starting with the pocket setup, I carry an iPhone every day. Currently, I use the iPhone 14 Pro. Although I was tempted to upgrade to the 15 Pro, especially because of its amazing new camera setup, the 14 Pro still meets my needs perfectly. It has great battery life, lasting me the whole day even with heavy use, and the camera is still excellent for both photos and videos. I decided to invest in other gear instead, which I'll show you soon.

I also use the Moft Creator Case, which came with some content creator tools like their origami tripod. This slim tripod attaches to the back of the phone and unfolds into various positions. It’s perfect for content creation or just setting up my phone for FaceTime or watching YouTube while eating.

On days when I need to focus more, I always have my AirPods Pro in my pocket. They've gotten so beaten up that friends ask where I got the marble skin on them, but it’s just wear and tear from constant use. Despite their age, they still work great, especially the active noise cancelling, which is essential for focusing at the office. As a product designer working in a noisy environment, the AirPods Pro help me tune out distractions and stay in the creative zone.

Next up is my key setup. Last year, I upgraded to the Orbitkey Key Organizer. It keeps my keys organized and prevents them from scratching other items in my pockets. I chose the all-black version for a sleek look, though I kind of regret not going for the tan and silver option, which I think looks even better.

For my wallet, I use one from Rudsak. It's a simple cardholder, perfect since I don’t carry cash. Though it’s starting to tear after a few years, its slim profile makes it ideal for my needs.

Another essential part of my EDC is my Apple Watch SE, which I’ve been using for about three years. It’s great for tracking workouts and sleep, although I’d like to switch to a more classic analog watch in the future.

Everyday Backpack

When it came to choosing a backpack, I needed something slim but capable of carrying everything I need. I chose the Urban Daypack from MOPAC for its stylish, minimal look and useful features like magnetic clasps and well-organized compartments. It even has quick-access side pockets, perfect for my camera, which I always carry with me now.

Speaking of the camera, I upgraded to a Sony a6700 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. This camera is compact and powerful, perfect for capturing high-quality photos and videos. I also carry a 16-50mm lens for versatility. After an unfortunate accident where I dropped my camera and shattered the lens, I now use a wrist strap from Peak Design to prevent further mishaps.

In my everyday backpack, I also carry a Larq water bottle, which uses UV light to keep the water clean and fresh. Staying hydrated is important, and this bottle fits the minimalist aesthetic of my backpack perfectly.

Someday Backpack

My someday backpack is mostly used for work. When I’m heading to work, I bring my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro since I use them for different tasks. The iPad is great for sketching ideas and viewing prototypes, while the MacBook is my go-to for more intensive work. I also carry my MX Master 3 mouse, which is perfect for navigating large design files in Figma or editing videos in DaVinci Resolve.

For miscellaneous items, I use a Native Union Stow Organizer. It holds extra SD cards, an external SSD, and a backup Magic Mouse. I also carry a fast GaN charger and a braided cable from Native Union, which are both durable and stylish.
